Mazda recall: 2008-2011 Tribute SUVs need power steering fix - CBC.ca

Transport Canada says more than 20,000 Mazda Tribute sports utility vehicles are being recalled to fix a problem that could result in an immediate loss of power steering assistance without warning to the driver. It says Mazda dealers will update software in the electronic power steering system that would warn drivers of a failure and allow for the power steering to continue functioning until the end of the drive cycle. The recall notice, dated May 29, affects the 2008 through 2011 model years of the Mazda Tribute. Source: www.cbc.ca

On a test-drive of the Tribute, pay special attention to the operation of the automatic transmission. A google search for “Mazda Tribute Transmission Problems” will reveal more information. Ask a mechanic for help if you’re not mechanically inclined. While the Tribute is in the air, that mechanic can also help inspect for signs of excessive rust. Tribute seems to be well-enjoyed for its driving experience and performance -- though potential transmission and fuel pump issues, both of which would incur fairly large repair costs, seem slightly worrisome.
