He then went on to complete a... For the past 16 years he was a cardiovascular and thoracic and trauma surgeon at both Valley Baptist Medical Center and Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen. He also served as trauma director at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He also served on the board of directors for IDEA public schools, where he was always trying to improve learning for today’s students. Tom Torkelson, president and CEO of IDEA public schools, told The Monitor’s Lorenzo Zazueta-Castro that Lopez was an intense and hardworking person who demanded a lot from himself and those around him. “It didn’t matter if we were No. 1 in the Valley or No. 1 among all charter schools, he was always asking me, ‘How are you going to do better.
