Cupertino, Sunnyvale: McIntyre takes hoop teams to the Next Level - San Jose Mercury News

Kyle McIntyre was not a dominant basketball player during his years at Fremont High, or even at Columbia Middle School before that. Dedication and hard work helped McIntyre overcome the challenge of being shorter than most of his opponents, lifted him to all-league status as a Fremont senior in 2009 and propelled him to the next level and beyond--two seasons of junior college... Now McIntyre, barely age 24, is the dedicated director of Next Level Basketball, an organization he started two years ago to help aspiring Sunnyvale area teenagers grow as basketball players and citizens. "This is extremely close to my heart, because many of the players are from the schools I played for not long ago" said McIntyre, whose leadership has been key to Next Level's growth in size and stature. In just three seasons the organization has grown from one team to four, with a combined record of 185-41. The first team formed was the varsity boys (18U), which is 75-8 over three seasons. A girls JV (16U) squad was added this year, and what a season it was. In the same month, the 14U squad capped a 29-9 season by capturing bronze medals at the California State Games Junior Olympics in San Diego. Alameda: School board hears about work on campuses - San Jose Mercury News

Work crews have been busy over the summer, carrying out repairs and upgrades funded through Measure I, the $179. 5 million facilities bond that Island voters passed in November 2014. Among the projects completed was paving at Amelia Earhart, Henry... "All of the playgrounds around these schools had not been done in years and years and years," Robbie Lyng, the director of maintenance and facilities for the Alameda Unified School District, told the Board of Education on Tuesday. The work cost $507,114 and required ripping out the old paving down to the dirt, recycling it, then installing new paving at the schools, Lyng said. Other work paid for through Measure I during the summer included the installation of new concrete and drainage at Alameda High School, which cost $12,975. "You guys have been working hard," Board President Barbara Kahn told Lyng. Projects still in the works include modernizing Maya Lin Elementary School with a new entrance and a new classroom building at Otis Elementary School. Future Measure I projects include making Historic Alameda High School earthquake-safe and developing a "Conservation, Efficiency, and Generation Plan," or what McPhetridge called the "three legs of the stool" needed to make the district more...
