Sheriff's office investigating late-night assault in Round Mountain - Redding Record Searchlight

- A Shasta County man was awoken early Thursday morning by two men who strong-armed their way into his home, allegedly beating him and killing one of his dogs before fleeing in one of his cars. Shortly after midnight Thursday, Richard Parker, 55, heard a knock on the door of his RV where it was parked on the 29000 block of Ranch Road in Round Mountain, he said. When Parker cracked the door open, he found himself face-to-face with the barrel of a rifle, he said. The assailants allegedly forced their way through the door and attacked Parker, beating him with the gun and screaming that they were going to kill him, he said. “They kept saying they wanted my money and I told them ‘I don’t have any money,’” Parker said. Parker’s three pit bulls, however, attacked the intruders, giving Parker the chance to run outside and flee the residence. Parker said were it not for his dogs, he believes he would have been killed. The two men then stole his blue 1994 Buick Skylark, California plates 5PHX517, and sped away from the residence. Source: www.redding.com
