The current L98 6. 0-litre V8 engine that produces 260kW of power and 517Nm of torque will be replaced by a 6. 2-litre V8 engine with codename L99 (an upgraded version of the LS3 current used in the naturally aspirated HSV range). This engine will locally produce 304kW of power at 5900rpm, down on the same engine used in the Chevrolet SS, in which it produces 310kW of power. The upgraded L99 engine comes with fuel-saving technology that includes E85 flex fuel compatibility and active fuel management that can shut down up to four-cylinders during light throttle loads. This, in addition to the fuel-saving technology of the L99 engine, is likely to reduce fuel consumption from the current 11. 7l/100km and increase performance, given the addition of 44kW of power. The WN Caprice V design has remained largely unchanged since the car was launched in 2006, though it received a very minor exterior facelift alongside a brand new interior in 2013 alongside the launch of the VF Commodore. Granted, the Ford Ranger is an important vehicle that is the fourth-biggest selling ute in Thailand, but it was just a facelift all the same. Journalists representing the Asean nations even applauded as a Ranger was driven down a steep metal ramp from the building's rafters and parked on a large stage. And the journalists lapped it up when Brett Wheatley, Shanghai-based vice-president of marketing, sales and service with Ford Asia-Pacific, said the facelift has made a tough and capable truck even better. The Chancellor surprised motorists by overhauling the taxation system for drivers for the first time since 2005, when the current CO2-based taxation system was introduced. From 2017, all new cars will be taxed on the basis of just three VED bands – zero, standard and premium. The amount the owner has to pay will be calculated on the basis of not only the CO2 emissions, but also the list price of the car. The tax on existing cars will remain as it is, with the Chancellor saying: “There will be no change to VED for existing cars – no one will pay more in tax than they do today for the car they already own. Reaction to the change has been mixed, with Mike Hawes, the chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, saying that the change “came as a surprise and is of considerable concern. “While we are pleased that zero-emission cars will, on the whole, remain exempt from VED, the new regime will disincentivise take up of low emission vehicles. “One is that new car prices have dropped in real terms over many years and the other is that money raised from VED will be ring-fenced for road investment, something not seen since the 1930s. ”. 2.
