2016 Nissan Titan XD: New Information on the 5.0L V8 Cummins [Preview] - The Fast Lane

The new 5. 0-liter V8 turbo-diesel makes 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque as announced before. Cummins tells us that the rev range on this V8 is wide and the torque not start to come down until around 4,200 rpm. This is indeed a large rpm range for any diesel engine. Diesels in the V8 configuration do tend to rev higher than a straight-six. This is what Cummins set out to do. Indeed, the 5. 0-liter V8 is approximately 11 inches shorter than their inline-six. Next, Cummins set out to make a lighter engine. We can confirm that the engine’s “diesel clatter” is well controlled when observed from outside the truck. In fact, we did a video interview with Rich Miller (Chief Product Specialist for the Titan) next to the truck as it was idling. Revving it to about 2,500 rpm does not raise the sound level by much, but you can still tell it’s a diesel. Nissan wanted the powerful nature of the engine to still come across in the sound. Q&A with Village Auto Group founder Ray Ciccolo (RC) and GM Dan Leahy (DL). Q: When the country and the auto industry were in a major recession, you said it would be the auto industry that lead the recovery. RC: Something new is happening in the automotive business. Many of the manufacturers now have excess capacity in North America, and they’re going to begin exporting to the rest of the world. I say North America because a lot of the plants are in Mexico. Volvo is the last manufacturer that I’m aware of to build a factory in North America. Q: How do you react to the growth of technology in cars. Slowly, I see a lot of older folks getting used to it. So many people tell me they’re driving a 10-year-old car with 125,000 miles that still runs like a top. But, more and more, they’re realizing that it doesn’t have the safety systems, the backup camera, and the new navigation systems. Years ago, technological growth wasn’t so dramatic. Heisman Trophy follows Marcus Mariota to Nashville - The Tennessean

The iconic Heisman Trophy posed in Nashville Friday — the new home of its latest winner, Marcus Mariota , who now plays for the Tennessee Titans. “He’s across the street,” said Harrison Hendricks, referring to where the Titans practice at Saint Thomas Sports Park, “so to have it here, that’s nice. Downtown Nissan displayed the 80-year-old trophy, awarded to the top college football player each year, in the lobby for customers and employees, like Hendricks, to admire and even touch. An Auburn graduate and fan, White also supports the Titans and attends at least one game yearly. Mariota isn’t the only Titan to receive the trophy — former running back Eddie George accepted the award in 1995 when he played for Ohio State. Non-football fans also admired and took pictures of the bronzed trophy, a figurine of a muscular, running football player in the 1930s-style uniform — a leather helmet, thick long-sleeved jersey, traditional football pants and cleats. “I just want to take pictures because I’ve never seen it before,” said Julie Sandine, who recognized the trophy despite her indifference to the game.
