Delta announces $1 billion quarterly profit - USA TODAY

Delta Air Lines reported $1 billion in adjusted net income, or $1. 27 per share, during the second quarter, the company announced Wednesday. That profit, based on lower-than-expected fuel prices and other operational savings, was 22% higher than the same months of April, May and June in 2014. The company returned $1 billion to shareholders through dividends and share buybacks. "Delta's record results have allowed the company to invest in its employees through higher wage rates and profit sharing. Delta completed 99. 8% of its flights during the quarter, with 43 days with zero cancellations for the mainline carrier, Anderson said. Morgan analysts said the earnings beat expectations of a consensus of $1. 21 per share. But in looking to the third quarter, analysts project earnings of about $1. 65 per share based in part on fuel costs and also on pilots ratifying their contract, which hasn't happened yet. On Friday, Delta pilots rejected a tentative contract with the company. Anderson said Wednesday the pilots are key stakeholders and leaders in the company, and that they would continue to work together. Source: www.usatoday.com

Honda pushes 2016 Pilot into premium SUV territory - Torque News

One could write volumes as to how 2016 Honda Pilot outshines all comers in the midsize SUV segment. Pilot's autonomous driving feature is just a teaser when it comes to Honda’s most refined 3 row SUV. None the less, the drive out to the track from Cincinnati, Ohio in Honda’s 3rd generation Pilot SUV was a pleasant one. I’ll be the first to admit that prior to experiencing Pilot first hand, I held more than a fist full of mental reservations as to flying across the U. S. to review yet another light truck based SUV. After all, a midsize SUV is an SUV, and, unless one has a weekly pressing engagement with a junior soccer league, your kids, kid’s friends and a dog or two to move across town, you most likely have little to no need for an 8 passenger SUV in you... Driving up to the hospitality staging area at Kentucky Speedway, automotive journalist were greeted by Honda Pilot’s competition. There, lined up before us, sat Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan and Toyota, all mid size, all premium, and all approaching $50,000. On this sunny, breezy spring day, Honda would extend the opportunity to all attending, nationally read and recognized... Source: www.torquenews.com

Three New Cadillac Crossover/SUV Models Inbound By 2020 - GM Authority (blog)

Let the trumpets sound , bring out the marching bands and a big parade . Oops , By 2020 , however the other local American manufacturers , the Europeans , Asians and Japanese will be into their 2nd or 3rd gen of their popular products and have a... Give GM credit for finally saying the CT6 is good but not good enough and posting $12 Billion to better suit Cadillac to the market. You sure don’t see Ford doing that and Chrysler is letting the 300 wither with only refreshes on 12 years old cars. Once they finish what they have started and they fail then you can have your day but at this point they have a lot of money to spend and a lot more dedicated people to their division to over see it with little interference form GM for one. What else we will see is one the size of the current Encore and Trax , and a 7 passenger SUV to join the new Enclave,Traverse and Acadia suvs all of them moving from the Lambda platform. The Delta plant is gearing up for a “new” model yet to be disclosed , and the plant will have the capacity after an influx of 350+ million going into the facility. I frankly don’t see the need for 3 new CUV/SUV’s not counting the XT5 and Escalade for Cadillac. GM currently has 12 CUV/SUV’s , soon to be 13 with the new Envision coming. Yet GM currently does not have a RWD, V8 sedan. Source: gmauthority.com

    1954 Ford Mainline 4-door sedan

The Ford Mainline is an automobile which was produced by Ford in the United States in the models years 1952 to 1956.[1] It was introduced as the base trim level of the 1952 Ford range below the Customline and Crestline models.[2] The Mainline retained its position in the redesigned 1955 Ford range [3] but was dropped for the 1957 model year when the Ford Custom became the new base model.[4]

The Mainline was offered in 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and 2-door station wagon body styles.[5] The station wagon was marketed as the Mainline Ranch Wagon [6] until it lost its Mainline tag for the 1955 model year when all Ford wagons were moved to their own series.[7] Mainlines were available with both inline six-cylinder and V8 engines.[8]

    Australian Ford Mainline Utility[edit]

In Australia the Mainline name was applied to a locally developed 2-door coupé utility version of the Ford Customline sedan from 1952.[9] The Mainline utilized an imported Ford V8 convertible chassis [10] with the large X-member for additional load carrying strength.[11] It sold alongside the Australian built Customline sedan, with both given yearly updates until production ceased in 1959.[12] The coupe utility slot in Ford Australia's lineup was filled by the first Ford Falcon utility the following year. The Mainline Utility was powered by an Australian produced version of the Ford side-valve V8 engine [13] until the introduction of the OHV V8 in the redesigned 1955 series.[14]

The Ford line of cars was again refreshed for 1952, although remaining similar to the all-new 1949 Fords. This time, curved one-piece windshield glass joined a new "Mileage Maker" straight-6 engine with 101 hp.[2] The 226 CID (3.7 L) L-head straight-6 was replaced by an overhead valve 215 CID (3.5 L) Mileage Maker with 101 hp (75 kW), while the old 239 CID (3.9 L) Flathead V8 remained with 110 hp (82 kW).

The model lines were again reshuffled, with the base model now called "Mainline" and mid-level called "Customline". The top "Crestline" included the "Sunliner" convertible, "Victoria" hardtop, and "Country Squire" station wagon. Inside was a "flight-style" control panel and new pedals suspended from below the dashboard. A voltmeter, gas gauge, temp. gauge, and oil pressure were standard.[2] The clock and radio were in the center of the dash. The grille sported a single center "bullet" surrounded by a chrome ring as well as "jet intake" corner markers. New trunk hinges were used that would not crush the contents of the trunk.[3] The brake and clutch pedal were now suspended.[4] Wheelbase was 115 in (2,921 mm).[2]

In these years, an overdrive transmission option was available.

1953 was Ford's 50th anniversary.[2] The big news for 1953 was the availability of power-assisted brakes and steering, which had previously been limited to the Mercury and Lincoln lines. The center grill bullet lost its ring and was now flanked by vertical black stripes, while the corner markers were plain rectangular lights rather than the circular "intakes". All 1953 Fords featured commemorative steering wheels marking the company's 50th anniversary. Mechanical changes included two-inch wider tread, and a k-bar frame with five cross-members.[5]William Clay Ford paced the Indianapolis 500 in a Sunliner convertible with a dummy Continental tire kit (Coronado kit).[2] This was also the last year for real wood trim on the Country Squire wagon. Toward the end of the year, Ford added "Master-Guide" power steering as an option on cars with V8s. Full instrumentation was still used.[6] A unusual service provided by Ford was that the radio preset buttons would already be set to local stations by the dealer.[7] The heater was $44.[2]

The long-lived flathead V8 engine was replaced for 1954 by a 239 cubic inch overhead valve Y-block unit, marking the end of an era. This engine produced 130 hp (97 kW) with a two-barrel carburetor. An impressive 160 hp (119 kW) 256 CI version with a Holley four-barrel was available in the official-use-only law enforcement model. The six-cylinder was up to 223 cu in (3.7 L) and now produced 115 hp.[8] Another new addition was the "Crestline Skyliner" two-door hardtop, which featured an acrylic glass panel over the front half of the roof. Also added was the new "Astra-Dial Control Panel" speedometer, which has a clear, plastic covering on the top, which let sunlight illuminate it in the day-time.[9] New power accessories included a four-way power front seat.[2] The "woody" Country Squire wagon now used artificial fiberglass panels but remained the most expensive Ford.

    Australian production[edit]

The 1952 Ford was also produced by Ford Australia from October 1952 to 1955. A four-door sedan was offered as the V8 Customline and a two-door coupe utility was marketed as the V8 Mainline Utility. Along with the general improvements for all 1952 Fords, the Australian-assembled model also got increased ground clearance to better cope with Australian road conditions.[10] The Utility was developed by Ford Australia using the chassis of the US Ford two-door convertible. Both models were updated in 1953 and 1954 along the lines of the US Fords and were powered by a 110 hp (82 kW) iteration of the 3.9 litre Flathead V8 which went into Australian production in 1952.[10][11] The Australian 1954s (arriving in June 1954) retained the flathead V8 rather than the new overhead-valve unit used in the United States, but received some visual alterations mostly consisting of additional chrome. The bumpers were deeper, wraparound units, while the taillights were redesigned, a full length chrome strip was fitted along the side, and an airplane-shaped bonnet ornament was fitted. The interior was now available in either Vynex or leather.[12]
