Highway Patrol: Suicidal woman causes two-vehicle crash - Daily Republic

Julie Eppel, 43, of Mitchell, "decided she wanted to end her life" and at about 11:30 a. m. attempted to drive her vehicle into an oncoming semi truck on Highway 38 at the Fulton corner, authorities say. Benjamin Wengler, 41, of Ethan, was driving a semi that was hauling gravel, and "because of his quick reaction, he swerved to the right and saved her life," according to South Dakota Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Petersen. Eppel's vehicle collided with the semi truck at the second axle at approximately 65 mph, Petersen said, and then it scraped along the truck. Source: www.mitchellrepublic.com

Concerts potentially coming to Palace balcony - Daily Republic

The series, entitled Downtown Thirstday, will utilize the new Corn Palace balcony as a stage for local, family friendly musicians. While it is an all-ages event, Downtown Thirstday gets its name because attendees will be able to purchase beer and wine from the Scoreboard Pub and Grille, located directly next to the Corn Palace. If the application for the event is approved by both the City Council and the Department of Public Safety, it will cause Main Street to close from Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue.
