Car destroyed in 'suspicious' fire - Otago Daily Times

A fire which burnt out a car in Concord yesterday morning is being treated as suspicious, police say. A member of the public reported the flaming car to the Fire Service and police about 10. 15am. The car, in Stevenson Rd, was engulfed in flames when Lookout Point firefighters arrived. Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said police were investigating. The owner of the 2001 silver Hyundai Accent was driving the car in Stevenson Rd on Tuesday evening when it had mechanical issues. Corstorphine resident Jesse Wilson said he saw thick grey smoke from his house and walked down to investigate. ‘‘I looked out the window and saw a bunch of smoke,'' he said. Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Dunedin police on 471-4800. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Source: www.odt.co.nz
