HUNTINGTON BEACH – A beach-side hotel was damaged Wednesday morning after a driver told police the car had a mechanical failure and veered off the highway. Huntington Beach police and fire officials responded at 8:27 a. m. to the Huntington Surf Inn, 720 Pacific Coast Highway, after a driver in a 2008 Silver Lexus GS350 veered off the highway and into a hotel staircase. The driver, who was not identified, told police officers that the car had a mechanical malfunction, which caused the crash, police Officer Jennifer Marlatt said. Police did not suspect the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Pacific Coast Highway remained open after the crash, Marlatt said.
