Lexus SC430 used car review - Drive

But it kind of resonates when you consider that Lexus was prepared to put something like its SC430 convertible into production even though it looked like it did. Okay, so maybe it wasn't arrogance that caused Lexus to produce the SC430 with the styling it was stuck with. Here's the thing, though: Thanks to plenty of depreciation (partly a Lexus thing, partly the look of the car) the SC430 is now around for relatively little money. And while the years haven't made it any prettier, neither have they had much luck in dulling the reliability or performance of what is, after all, a proper convertible with a proper V8 engine. Actually, the first Lexus drop-top (as the SC430 was) used a folding metal roof rather than the simpler, lighter, cloth top that is regaining favour these days. But to try to keep weight down, Lexus made the roof from aluminium. The only catch was that when the roof was folded and stowed, there was precious little luggage space, despite the rather extended proportions of the boot making the Lexus less of a weekend getaway car than it should have been. This space issue was also why the SC430 got a space-saver spare tyre instead of a proper spare. Source: www.drive.com.au
