The 2016 Mazda MX-5 has a heavy burden on its shoulders, living up to the reputation earned by the previous three generations of Mazda sports roadsters. Light makes for fun, but it can also enhance gas mileage, of course, and in the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, the latter, at least, comes down to hard data: 27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined when fitted with the standard six-speed manual... The optional six-speed automatic boosts mileage a touch to 27/36/30 mpg city/highway/combined. It’s also about 25 percent better than the outgoing third-generation MX-5’s gas mileage. We’ll have to wait until we can get our butts in the seat of the MX-5 to give a verdict on its fun factor, but with a striking new design, great numbers on paper, and Mazda’s proven ability to tune fun into a two-seat roadster, our hopes are...
