Some regions of the country require drivers to display a license plate on the front of their car.
My new VW GTI did not have a place on the bumper for mounting a plate, and I was not comfortable poking holes in my shiny new car. I designed these custom plugs to fit perfectly inside the front grille, allowing you to mount a license plate.
Please note: in the image provided I did not level my license plate prior to mounting, that's why it appears to be slightly angled. These plugs will allow for a level appearance. As demonstrated by MC on his 2019 mk7.5 with LP!
The location of the plugs is completely up to the user. I opted to mount on the edge so as to avoid blocking airflow to the intercooler. I've driven over 20000 miles and the plate is still there! It has outlasted storms, an idiot who backed in to me, and "touchless" car washes.
Although you may find it easier if you pop the upper front grille off, installation does not require the removal of any parts of the car. The plugs are short enough to slide through the openings in the lower grille, and once rotated the base is thicker than the body which prevents the plug from sliding back through. As you screw in the license (or vanity?) plate, the plugs will draw up tight and flush.
I can pilot holes for mounting, however I encourage you to do this as I cannot be sure a "level" fit on my car will look the same on yours. I do not currently ship the mounting screws as they would weigh nearly as much as the plugs themselves! On my vehicle, I used stainless steel screws roughly 1/4" wide and 1/2" long.
Please let me know if you'd like driver's side or passenger side fitment, there's a slight difference in grille openings.
