Toyota looking at possibility of expanding Huntsville plant - WAFF
WAFF 48 obtained a copy of a government application submitted by Toyota leaders suggesting they're looking at a possible expansion into transmission production. The documents show the Port of Huntsville leaders are also assisting Toyota in their efforts. Toyota already has a large engine manufacturing plant in North Huntsville that employs more than 1,000. A Toyota spokesperson said the facility currently manufactures four-cylinder engines for the Camry, RAV4, Venza, and Highlander. In addition, the Huntsville plant manufacturers V6 and V8 engines for the Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and Highlander. Two Toyota applications submitted to the government ask the Huntsville facility be granted a Foreign Trade Zone or FTZ distinction. “Toyota wants to become a part of the already established Huntsville-Madison Country Airport Authority trade zone project,” said Port of Huntsville spokesperson Jana Kuner. “What you are seeing in the paper is a request that the airport has submitted on behalf of the Toyota engine plant to establish them as a subzone.
