Stolen 4WD engine racket dismantled - The Star Online

IPOH: Police have smashed a syndicate specialising in stripping engines from stolen four-wheel-drive vehicles and lorries before selling them outside the country. Perak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Goh Kok Liang said that acting on a tip-off, a police team from Bukit Aman and the state CID stormed a scrap metal store at Ladang TRP, Trong, near Taiping, at about 11am. He said the store’s owner, who was... “Subsequently, police arrested 21 men, 10 of them from Bangladesh, Myanmar and Egypt, in Simpang, near Taiping, and Chain Ferry in Butterworth,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday. SAC Goh said police recovered the engines of 4WD vehicles, including Toyota Hilux, Hicom, Isuzu and Mitsubishi, from a container in the store. “The shipment was meant for Port Klang before being sent out of the country,” SAC Goh said, adding that police were investigating which countries the engines were being sent to.
