Holden Colorado Z71 quick spin - Drive

The car: Holden Colorado Z71. The price: From $57,190 plus on-road costs. 8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel. What is it. Holden calls this "the new hero at the top of the Colorado pick-up range". Essentially it's an upmarket sticker pack based on the range-topping Colorado ute, giving the brand an answer to Ford's premium Ranger Wildtrak and the Toyota HiLux Black Label. What does it say about me. That you want a ute with the lot, to stand out from regular models and might just enjoy showing off a little bit. Who else is buying it. Once a tradesman's domain, utes have become family transport, lifestyle accessories, rock-crushing four-wheel-drives and well-appointed near-luxury cars. What colours does it come in. Summit white and sizzle red are standard, or you can fork out an extra $550 to take home an example in black sapphire, orange rock or satin steel grey. All five choices come with a body-coloured sail plane extension to the tray, metallic grey wheels, dark headlamps, black-painted mirrors, handles, body mouldings and black bonnet stripes that set it apart from the regular model. Why would I buy it. Because you need to haul a tonne of rocks, tow loads of manly adventure gear and venture far away from the beaten path on a regular basis. Or you at least want to appear to exhibit that lifestyle on the way to an equally manly brunch. Source: www.drive.com.au
