'turck' an online hit - Stuff.co.nz

A spelling-challenged farmer selling his "turck" on Trade Me had to defend himself from a swarm of commenters when his auction went viral. Matt, from Rangiora, listed a 1995 Toyota Hilux Surf on the website on December 6. The auction was littered with spelling errors, including repeated references to his "turck". But the auction took a turn when hundreds of commenters arrived, many questioning the "turck's" origin. Matt answered hundreds of comments before withdrawing the auction. Trade Me said it had been approached with concerns about the listing before it was taken down by the seller, but they were not substantiated. "This [auction] did attract a bunch of complaints from members with concerns, but we weren't aware of anything untoward about the truck," a spokesman said. Christchurch police were aware of the auction, and were in contact with Rangiora police. Rangiora police were unable to immediately respond for comment. A commenter on the auction claimed to receive details about the car's original number plate in a text from Matt. Searching that number plate on vehicle history website Carjam shows the plates are registered to the Hilux, which has not been reported. Source: www.stuff.co.nz
