In his first preseason game, Mariota suffered turnovers — one fumble and one interception — on his first two series. The rookie quarterback looked sharp in three drives at the helm of the Titans, completing 5-of-8 passes for 59 yards. Mariota should have had a touchdown pass as well, but running back Dexter McCluster — open in the end zone — dropped a Mariota pass from seven yards away. Mariota’s night looked even better when it was revealed that the coach-to-quarterback communicator device — which allows coach Ken Whisenhunt to talk to Mariota directly on the field — went out during the team’s first series. It was an impressive showing beyond just Mariota for the Titans, as their first-team offense and defense dominated the Rams in a 27-14 victory at Nissan Stadium. In addition to Cox’s touchdown return, the Titans’ first-team defense blanked the Rams while playing for just over one quarter. Source: www.tennessean.com
