Test Drive: 2014 Nissan Frontier offers back-to-basics pickup truck appeal Affordable, durable, and practical, Nissan’s small Frontier truck remains appealing even if the design is now a decade old. Seriously talented new competition is about to arrive in the form of the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, however. Today, as I sit here writing this review of the 2014 Nissan Frontier, which is about as close as it gets to a classic compact pickup, the pickings are very slim if you’re looking for a truck that’s smaller than the ubiquitous full-size models. You can get this Nissan, you can get a Toyota Tacoma, or, if you don’t have much weight to tow or very far to go off-road, you can hunt around Honda dealerships for a Ridgeline – which is my personal favorite of this trio. That’s the situation in advance of the arrival of the all-new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups. Over the week that I drove this “Lava Red” Frontier Crew Cab – fitted with PRO-4X trim and the optional Luxury Package – this Nissan truck grew on me. It looks tough and rugged, and the interior’s hose-me-out ambience lends the Frontier an aura of... I do think the bulky roof rack should be excluded from the Luxury Package, because it ruins the Frontier’s lines and renders the power sunroof a non-starter. The optional sliding bed extender is far more useful than the roof rack. Source: www.nydailynews.com
