Insane 10-Second GMC Typhoon Causes A Stir The Drag Strip: Video - GM Authority (blog)

The GMC Typhoon is one 90s mid-size SUV that needs no introduction. It and its pickup-truck twin brother the Syclone have developed a strong following, mostly due to the performance dished out by their shared 4. 3-liter turbocharged V6 engine and accompanying all-wheel drive system. That powertrain also helped the car gain recognition at the drag strip, and you’ll learn why by taking one look at the White Typhoon in the video below. We don’t have information or specs on the manic mid-size SUV, but it appears to have a heavily upgraded version of the stock V6 turbo engine. So upgraded in fact that it easily runs a 10. 7-second quarter-mile at 127 mph. For reference, Car and Driver once recorded a stock Typhoon doing a 14. 1 second quarter-mile at 95 mph. Despite its all-wheel drive system, the Typhoon’s launch is still a little squirrely. We’re willing to bet this SUV could easily inch its way into the mid-10s with a cleaner launch, though that’s probably a little easier said than done considering the massive amount of torque the V6 is likely putting to the pavement.
