Council approves rezoning of land near Randolph - TriValley Central

When the rezoning came before the planning and zoning commission in June, it was met with opposition from a handful of passionate residents from unincorporated Randolph. The residents said they were dubious of industry’s effect on their lives, due to an odor arising from the Western Emulsions plant located a mile away in the Coolidge city limits. They requested the rezoning be tabled until the situation with Western Emulsions is resolved, but the board approved it unanimously. Representatives from Western Emulsions said they are aware of the odor, which has been stronger over the past eight months, and are working to reduce it as much as possible. Rick Miller, Coolidge’s growth management director, said the city has met with the company to discuss the actions being taken, and outreach has begun with the Randolph residents to try to make amends. “We can speculate about what they want or what they don’t want,” Thompson said. We want to be good neighbors, but the property owner isn’t going to sue them, they’re going to sue us, if we don’t get this done. Source: www.trivalleycentral.com
