The Chevrolet Suburban of today with its large, roomy interior stands in stark contrast to the Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans of yesteryear . A great example of this is a mint condition 1956 GMC Suburban Pickup at the GM Heritage Center. Yes, a Suburban pickup. Known as the GMC version of the Chevrolet Cameo pickup, the Heritage Center’s blue Suburban has many of the same styling and features. It is a relatively rare pickup with total production of about 1,000 units from 1955 to 1957. This light blue pickup, fully loaded for the time, is a Deluxe Cab with chrome bumpers, grille, white sidewall tires, V8 engine and a 4-speed Hydra-Matic... For the time, the powertrain pushed out a respectable 180 HP. Its styling, virtually unchanged from 1955, features sleek sides, unique tail lights and a panoramic windshield. GM produced both a GMC pickup version and a Chevrolet station wagon body version of the Suburban from 1955 to 1957, while this pickup was offered for $1,923 in 1956.
