Count shows 1036 homeless in South Dakota - Daily Republic

Minnehaha County reported the highest number of homeless in the state at 463. 146 of those homeless in Minnehaha were children. Pennington County had the second-highest number of homeless individuals in the state at 257. 36 were children. This year's count showed 61 percent was adults over the age of 24. 26 percent were children under 18. and 13 percent were adults 18 to 24. The reasons cited for homelessness were divorce, domestic violence, unemployment, mental health issues, aged... Alcohol and drug abuse contributed to the highest number of homeless individuals.
