Friends mourn loss in McGregor Blvd crash - The News-Press

The rush-hour crash on McGregor Boulevard left the two surviving Cape Coral residents in the hospital and their spouses dead. The driver, 75-year-old Harold Burns, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. His wife, 70-year-old Susan Burns, died in the crash. Susan Burns and the man identified by neighbors as Mike Krochmal, 68, were riding in the back of the SUV when the crash occurred. He died and his wife, Pam Krochmal, 62, survived, neighbors said. No charges have been filed as troopers continue to investigate the crash, which shut down northbound lanes of McGregor Boulevard for nearly three hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Troopers say Harold Burns, who was wearing his seat belt , was driving south on McGregor when he tried to make a left turn into the Bridge Plaza — driving into the path of a 2003 Ford F-350 that was heading north on McGregor, according to a FHP... The pickup struck the right side of Burns' SUV and pushed the car into the path of a 2005 Saturn L300 that was waiting to exit the Bridge Plaza driveway. On Thursday, Mike Krochmal's powerboat sat outside his Cape Coral home as his neighbors were left stunned and distraught. The neighborhood goes like this: McCarthy's house then the Burns' residence then the Krochmals' house. Source: www.news-press.com
