CLOSE CALL! - Bullard News

An evening ride through picturesque East Texas by several members of the Tyler Bicycle Club came inches away from an unpleasant ending, as a sport utility vehicle nearly clipped a cyclist, with the whole incident caught on camera. Cyclist John Horsley, a member of the Tyler Bicycle Club for the past 3 ½ years, was one of the cyclists enjoying the ride with approximately 10 to 12 other members Tuesday, Aug. Horsley was filming the ride with his Go-Pro HERO 3 camera attached to his helmet, as the group pedaled down County Road 346, near the intersection of County Road 344, in Teaselville. The driver of a Lincoln-made SUV passed the group, leaving very little space between the vehicle and the cyclists. In the video, the SUV comes very close to Horsley, who was alerted by a fellow cyclist behind him of the approaching danger. The cyclist ahead of Horsley, Kevin Shipp, was nearly hit by the vehicle, which was at a distance of approximately five inches away from the cyclists, according to Horsley. “When you’re that close to a vehicle that’s flying down the road, you’re first thought is that you hope no one in front of you gets hit. Horsley said he feels he and Shipp were fortunate to have not been injured in the incident, given the close proximity of the passing SUV to the cyclists. Source: www.bullardnews.com
