Health inspection scores put New China Buffet in jeopardy - Daily Republic

The New China Buffet, located at the Palace Mall on North Main Street, has recorded some of the worst health inspection scores in Mitchell over the past two years. Bill Chalcraft, a health protection official with the South Dakota Department of Health, said it's important not to look too much into one failing score, suggesting a pattern of low scores would give a better idea of the quality of a facility. The report shows that three bowls of fried chicken were stored at 80 degrees and one bowl of fried shrimp was stored at 122 degrees. Health inspectors go through a list of 44 items in every food service establishment to determine an overall score, which is based on a scale from 0 to 100. According to the Department of Health web site, the lowest score in 2014 was 43, and 94... If the New China Buffet fails its follow-up inspection, it will go to a licensure hearing in which an examiner will make the final determination whether the restaurant can remain open. The Department of Health and the restaurant owners will each present their case before the hearing examiner makes the decision to either allow the business to remain open or temporarily suspend its license.
