Olathe Ford Lincoln's backpack drive helps Olathe school children - Kansas City Star

The 2014-15 school year ended a few weeks ago, but Olathe Ford Lincoln at 1845 E. Santa Fe St. , is already thinking about the next school year that starts in August. Inside the showroom, a car is already filling up with school supplies donated by employees and customers for the Olathe Public Schools Foundation. “We have set it up in the back in our main showroom on the Ford side,” said Kim Karigan, a receptionist at Olathe Ford Lincoln. Three years ago, a former employee at Olathe Ford Lincoln started this project. The dealership donated 75 backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need. Last year Karigan took over midway through the process, and the goal this year is to fill 100 or more backpacks. Anyone who wants to donate a backpack, school supplies or money can come to the Olathe Ford Lincoln or reach Karigan at 913-782-0881. “As I told the employees, they don’t have to fill an entire backpack,” Karigan said. Some of the school supplies the Olathe Public Schools Foundation is looking for include backpacks, three-ring binders, pencils, pens, scissors, glue, rulers and spiral notebooks.
