Winning dealer (and classic wheelers) A new-car “spin-off” at Trident Technical College’s yearly car show April 25 spawned a champion, while dozens of classics birthed more than 30 honorees. Among the events, the show held its second New Car competition, with Fred Anderson Toyota winning for its Inferno 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro pick-up. This year, 16 dealerships took part in the new-car faceoff, double the total in the inaugural event in 2014. To pick a winner, “We let the crowd vote,” said Clint Snider, who organized the competition with fellow Automotive Technology instructor... The department’s graduates often become technicians at area dealerships, so it seemed like a natural move to add the new-car event. Making it a contest rather than a “car corral” to simply view new models drew even more interest, said Cliff Hudson, car show committee chairman. Marion Alston of Mount Pleasant was awarded the President’s Trophy for his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, while Matthew Anderson of Charleston took home the People’s Choice Award for his 1983 Jeep CJ-7.
