In the championship game against Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Tennant’s teammate Ian Durgin was almost as good. Durgin also pitched a complete game, powering the Roughriders to a 4-1 win and a second straight Jamestown tournament title. Tennant is in his last year of American Legion eligibility and knows his time pitching for Gillette is nearly over. The ’Riders have three conference games this week, which Tennant won’t likely start after Sunday’s masterpiece. The only other guaranteed games on the schedule are the ones at the Wyoming American Legion AA State Tournament in Sheridan at the end of the month. “I knew that was one of my last starts ever,” Tennant said. The devastating one-two punch of Durgin and Tennant kept batters off balance Sunday. Mathews came into Sunday’s game with an 8-0 record and sparkling 1. 50 earned run average. Sunday’s pitching stars were unquestionably Tennant and Durgin, but the ’Rider who did the most damage at the plate was Dillon Buckmeier. Buckmeier hit an RBI single in the title game and forced in another run with an RBI bases-loaded hit by pitch. He also had one of the two RBIs in Gillette’s 2-0 win over Jamestown.
