Why Pa. won't raise the speed limit to 70 mph - Bucks County Courier Times (registration)

We all need to take a look at our own driving habits and responsibility (or lacking) thereof. If you indeed read all of Mr. Mullane's commentary, maybe you missed this part, as taken from above: "in 1958, a housewife with average driving skills rolling on thin bias-ply tires, manual drum brakes and primitive (by today’s standards)... Where I got the "soccer mom" from (yes, I added that) is because I happen to have a neighbor who is indeed a soccer mom. To clarify, ALL drivers, regardless of sex, need to hang up and drive - safely, at a reasonable speed limit. As a mother who NEVER talks on the phone or texts and certainly NEVER uses impairing substance (legal or not) while driving I am insulted by your generalization. My kids know that if I am driving I will not answer the phone until I can safely pull over. I see plenty of men driving recklessly and they frighten me every bit as much as the soccer mom you described. I have heard the statistic that we spend 1% of the time driving in reverse and 80% of accidents happen in that gear. The reason 70 is safe is that it reduces the difference between the speeds of drivers, which is a big cause of accidents. Source: www.buckscountycouriertimes.com
