As a boy, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews occasionally walked with his mother from their Dumaine Street home in Treme to the Saenger Theatre . They'd catch a show, and maybe grab a bite at the Popeyes that, until Hurricane Katrina, occupied a... The "Treme Threauxdown," presented by the House of Blues and WWOZ-FM, opens with the New Breed Brass Band at 9:30 p. m. Andrews and his band, Orleans Avenue, follow with a long set featuring several special guests, including Allen Toussaint,... "For me to see my name up on the marquee, and play here, and it's right in my neighborhood -- it's a big accomplishment for me. ". The "Treme Threauxdown" opens a typically busy Jazz Fest season for Andrews. On April 30 at Generations Hall in the Warehouse District, he hosts the third annual Shorty Fest, a fundraiser for the Trombone Shorty Foundation. Shorty Fest features Sweet Crude, the New Breed Brass Band, John Boutte, Tank & the Bangas, TYSSON, Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet, and Orleans Avenue, plus an all-star tribute to Big Chief Monk Boudreaux with Davell Crawford, North Mississippi...
