Prison for man who could not stop breaking into coin-operated machines ... - MLive.com

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Despite his pleas that the power of Jesus has made him a new man, a 39-year-old will spend the next 3-1/2 to 10 years in prison for crashing stolen vehicles into police cruisers after a series of coin-operated car wash burglaries. Leiber made the biblical reference during the sentencing hearing for Baer, who earlier pleaded guilty to unlawful driving away and third-degree fleeing from police as a third-felony offender. Baer was in the midst of what court records would indicate as one of his favorite activities, cracking open the coin-operated machines at Car Lovers Car Wash, 6790 Whitneyville Ave. SE, around 3:30 a. m. on May 6. At the time, Baer was on parole after serving a 270-day sentence following a 2010 conviction for multiple counts of breaking and entering coin-operated machines, according to court records. In 2006, court records show Baer was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison for breaking and entering with intent and breaking into a coin-operated device. Baer then stole a 1999 Buick LeSabre, which tried to go around approaching cruisers and crashed into one head-on, but still managed to briefly escape. Police went to Baer's last known address at Hague Avenue SW and Porter Street in Wyoming and found both the stolen Buick and Baer. Source: www.mlive.com
