Grocery store temporarily becomes drive-thru - The Republic

Downtown Grocery owner Mike Singh of Indianapolis was back in business just hours after the Wednesday incident, although large sheets of plywood covered the doors and windows at 1121 Washington St. He is waiting for estimates to see just how much... Hawkins went over a parking block before hitting the front of the store, shattering the entryway glass and flipping over a display aisle of chips and dip. The impact created a loud crash, and everything in the chip aisle — from tortilla chips to salsa and cheese dip — went flying, Singh said. Hawkins then backed the car out of the doorway of the store, Singh said. Columbus police said Hawkins wasn’t injured and her car had only minor damage. However, police estimated total damage, including the grocery store structure, would be $25,000 to $50,000. Singh said he has insurance coverage on the building. It took about four hours to clean up all the salsa and cheese sauce off the floor, remove the damaged items and restore order, Singh said. The grocery store has many standard convenience store items but also stocks bread, milk and other staples. Source: www.therepublic.com
