WAPELLO, Iowa — State investigators have released the name of the deputy who shot a suspect allegedly trying to run over another deputy at the conclusion of a car chase that ended during the overnight hours in Fruitland last week. Louisa County Sheriff's Deputy David Perley has been identified as the shooter, according to a press release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The investigation in the shooting has been completed, but no decision has been made on whether the deputy's actions were justified, the press release stated. As deputies approached the vehicle, Spurling allegedly drove his 1993 Cadillac Seville toward the deputies. Perley has been employed with the Louisa County Sheriff's Office since 2002, after he was employed as a police officer with the Muscatine Police Department beginning in 1988.
