Registry protects children from adult-oriented messages - C&G Newspapers

METRO DETROIT — The state is working to get the word out about a program that works much like the well-known Do Not Call Registry to protect children from adult-oriented messages via electronic devices. The Michigan Legislature created the Protect MI Child Registry in 2004 as a way for parents to block these types of messages by listing email addresses, cellphone numbers, fax numbers and messenger identifications to the registry. With teens posting their numbers in various places online, cellphone numbers end up sold to vendors who use numbers for promoting adult-oriented activities like pornography or e-cigarettes.
