UM or MSU? Don't ask about a do-over, Webber says - Detroit Free Press

Michigan's Ray Jackson, looks for help under pressure from Western Kentucky while the Michigan bench cheers the Wolverine forward on in the in the final minutes of regulation play on March 16, 1995, in Dayton, Ohio. Like it or not, Chris Webber is a Michigan Man. But way back then, Webber was a Birmingham Detroit Country Day recruit sought by many schools in 1991, including U-M and Michigan State. So when they were done dissecting Webber's disdain for the "30 for 30" documentary about the Fab Five this morning, Dan Patrick asked him about something MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo told him a few weeks ago: that Webber was the only recruit who... "I've known coach Izzo -- I consider him a friend -- I've known him since I was about 15 years old," Webber said. "I love coach Izzo, because when he goes into kids' houses and he talks to kids and he says what he says and he makes them promises, he holds true to those promises. He said that Izzo followed through on a promise to recruit his brother, even after Webber chose the Wolverines. So, Patrick said, "if I gave you a mulligan, knowing what you know now. don't do that," Webber said. In 2002, he talked to the Michigan Daily about being recruited by Izzo, who was an MSU assistant at the time (he didn't succeed Jud Heathcote until 1995). "Tom Izzo knows how I got to Michigan,".
