2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Verdict Another Workhorse Departs - MotorTrend Magazine

Chevrolet revamped its heavy-duty line at a time when the Great Recession had hit hard. In the heavy-duty truck market, that's what counts. And the company succeeded -- the new truck offered more torque and horsepower than before, plus higher towing and payload capacities. We were so impressed with the pickup that we named it Motor Trend 's Truck of the Year, despite its not-so-revised cabin and only slightly different exterior, and ordered up our long-termer. For the first time, the Duramax engine had a new emissions system, and it required the use of diesel exhaust fluid. We quickly learned the fill spot is on the passenger side, right at the firewall, meaning that (as we discovered) you have to stand on a curb or be really tall to be able to fill the tank without spilling. It doesn't take all that long to refill, and as long as you buy the DEF somewhere other than at the dealership, it's inexpensive. Some of us did run the tank out of fluid. After that happened, the next time we started the truck, its top speed was 55 mph, and as time went on, the top speed went down -- until it only let you go about 5 mph. We soon refilled the tank, and everything went back to normal. Source: www.motortrend.com
