Tiger Woods still brings out the fans, regardless of how he plays - SportingNews.com

GREENSBORO, N. C. — It took Tiger Woods 20 years to find this place, but the fans here think it was worth the wait. The Wyndham Championship, formerly the Greater Greensboro Open and the Chrysler Classic, has been on the PGA Tour for 76 years. In those years, the tournament has seen legends including Hogan, Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus, Player and Casper. MORE: PGA Tour winners of 2014-15 season | Tiger has best round since 2012. Only Woods knows what took so long. As much success as Jordan Spieth has found as a 22-year-old, even he played in Greensboro two years ago. John Daly hasn't had status on the PGA Tour in years but everywhere he plays he has the largest gallery on the course, unless Woods is playing. So the golf fans in and around Greensboro have already forgotten that Woods ignored the Wyndham all those years. Officials estimate 6,000 extra tickets were purchased Thursday for the first round, and more than 10,000 extra have been sold for Friday. The tournament has printed an extra 49,000 since Woods announced he was playing. Why just 49,000. That is the amount tournament officials think they can accommodate, and even that has meant 24-hour work days for officials, volunteers and others. Tuesday morning, when the media arrived, it was three rooms, plus the interview room was now outside, constructed overnight in a large tent. Source: www.sportingnews.com
