Revealed: The £2.5m super car that could take on Ferrari - getreading

The latest version of the incredible Icona Vulcano supercar has debuted at California’s Pebble Beach Concours – and it features a fire-breathing Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 engine tuned to nearly 1000bhp, along with handcrafted titanium bodywork. Boasting cutting-edge styling inspired by the Blackbird SR-71 aircraft, the original Vulcano first appeared in 950bhp hybrid form at the 2013 Shanghai motor show. Its 790bhp V12 was teamed with a 160bhp electric motor, but the newcomer abandons this set-up in favour of a 6. 2-litre supercharged V8. The standard ZR1 powerplant produces 661bhp and 620lb ft, but in Icona’s projected 986bph-plus state of tune... A 0-60mph sprint time of 2. 8sec and 220mph is claimed for the car. The latest Vulcano – whose unique panels were handcrafted over 1000 hours – challenges Icona design director Samuel Chuffart’s current assertion that the concept is a one-off creation. uk is part of Trinity Mirror Southern, offering you unique access to our growing audience across the area.
