Thunderbird runners look to build team success - Greene County Daily World

LITTLE CINCINNATI -- With six of its top seven runners returning from last years team, the Eastern Greene boys cross country team is looking for big things this season. The Thunderbirds, who won the Greene County Invitational last season, will be led by all-conference returnees John Kirts and Justin Terry. Kirts, a senior, advanced to the semistate last season, while Terry, just a junior was a regional qualifier. "John and Terry will be looking to build on last years success and both are looking for a top five finish in the conference (Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference) meet," fifth year coach Ray Hausler said. Junior Nick Grimes is nursing an early season knee injury but is expected to be back in the top 7 by seasons end, as will be sophomore Isiaha Padgett. "Isiaha was our surprise runner last year (as a freshman)," the Thunderbirds coach stated. Newcomers Joel Weimer and Wyatt Birch are also expected to compete for a varsity spot this season. Said Hausler of the sophomore Weimer, "he ran track for us in the spring and we talked him into running cross country. As for team goals, Hausler just wants to see improvement from meet-to-meet and the rest will sort itself out. Source: www.gcdailyworld.com
