Driver cited after McHenry crash on Route 31 causes gas leak - Northwest Herald

A nixle alert issued about 12:40 p. m. by the McHenry Police Department asked drivers to avoid the area of Route 31 and Albany Street while authorities investigated a traffic crash. He said according to initial reports, a Curran Contracting 1999 Mack semitruck was stopped in traffic when a 2003 Ford F-450 truck from a St. Charles telecommunications company struck the semi while trying to stop. "It tried to veer, but still caught the corner of the Curran semi, which caused [the other] truck to tip on its side," Birk said. The overturned truck hit what appeared to be a Nicor gas feed, causing a minor gas leak, he said, adding traffic was shut down in the area for about an hour and 45 minutes while Nicor shut off the gas and police investigated the scene. There were no injuries, but the driver of the telecommunications truck was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, Birk said. Source: www.nwherald.com
