Update: Fatal hit-and-run under investigation on Highway 280 - Alabama's News Leader

Update: 3:54 p. m. Right now, law enforcement needs your help finding the driver responsible for a hit and run that killed a pedestrian this morning. The driver was in a 2004 to 2008 white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Lieutenant Scott Thurmond with the Birmingham Police Department says the hit and run took place just after 5:30 Wednesday morning. "It appears she was trying to run across (or) walk across Highway 280. She almost made it all the way across when she was struck," said Thurmond. Heather Wallace and Marissa Curtis work at the Dunkin Donuts across the street from where the hit and run took place. They see pedestrians making a run for it, trying to cross the busy highway. "We see a lot of people walking across the street," says Wallace. "Every day when I leave work, there's somebody running across. If it's a red light, or green light, or turn signal they just run," Curtis says "I definitely think we need a crosswalk, and signals to signal when it's safe to cross. ABC 33/40 contacted the Alabama Department of Transportation about this story, asking whether the department would consider placing a crosswalk at this intersection. Source: www.abc3340.com
