BAY CITY, MI — A 64-year-old Kawkawlin man is facing a felony due to police alleging he tried running over a former boss as he walked down a Bay City sidewalk. 13, police responded to the 700 block of East Midland Street after Bay County Central Dispatch received calls of a vehicle nearly hitting someone, court records show. At the scene, 72-year-old Franklin K. York told police he was talking on his cellphone as he and a friend walked on the sidewalk. He heard a man call his name from a passing vehicle, but the motorist soon began to hurl insulting names, so York ignored him, he told officers, according to court records. The vehicle, a red 1998 GMC Jimmy pickup truck, then pulled toward York and the driver kept calling him names, York said, according to court records. York, who owns York Repair Inc. Genow drove his truck onto the sidewalk, causing York to back up in the cove of a doorway to avoid being struck, he told police. "I heard him say he was going to run me over," York told police, according to court records. York's friend talked with Genow and he eventually drove away, York told police. He told them he waved to York, but when York ignored him, he grew angry and called him some uncouth names, he said.
