Open tailgate no party for passing motorists - Mount Desert Islander

MOUNT DESERT — It was anything but a picnic for the owners of three vehicles damaged when a dump truck reportedly dropped large quantities of dirt and fist-sized rocks onto Route 198 on Aug. As the truck, driven by Jeffrey Austin of Sullivan, no age listed, headed north up the road, several yards of gravel, along with rocks of varying sizes, spilled out the back. Rocks from the truck struck the windshield and front of an oncoming 2015 Ford Flex driven by Mary Higgins, 72, of Asheville, N. C. Damage was listed at $300. Meanwhile, a Chevy Ventura driven by Amy Walton of Bar Harbor, no age listed, was...
