Island Police Log: Woman injured in crash - Mount Desert Islander

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — An Ellsworth woman was injured Tuesday morning when the car she was driving struck another vehicle, careened off Route 102 and struck a tree. The driver, Heather Hammond, 35, was taken by the Southwest Harbor-Tremont Ambulance Service to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor. As of Tuesday, she was listed in stable condition, according to interim Police Chief Mike Miller. Hammond was southbound near the entrance to Echo Lake Beach when her vehicle struck the rear of a car driven by Chris Ring, 26, of Gouldsboro. Miller said Ring had not stopped his vehicle. Ring’s vehicle sustained only minor damage and was able to be driven from the crash scene, Miller said. Police discovered Monday morning that a car reported stolen during the overnight had been towed after it had been found parked illegally at a location several blocks from where the owner reported it had been left. Ryan Miller, 33, of Tremont was summonsed July 30 on a charge of operating after suspension. Miller’s license was suspended in June 2012, according to the report. Rand Sheets, 30, of Southwest Harbor was summonsed July 29 after he reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign. Officer Christopher Wharff took a complaint Saturday night that a man left a Rodick Place business without paying his bill. Source: www.mdislander.com
