Duryea man accused in fatal car crash will head to trial - Citizens Voice

A man accused of killing the driver of an oncoming car while speeding on a West Wyoming road in 2013 will face his charges in county court. One felony count of homicide by vehicle and two summary charges of excessive speed and disregarding traffic lanes against Jack Ostrowski of Duryea were held for court by Magisterial District Judge Joseph Carmody on Thursday morning. Police alleged he crossed lanes into the path of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Thomas Ohl Jr. , 61, causing a head-on collision on West Eighth Street. Ostrowski told police on scene that he lost control of his vehicle on black ice and crossed the yellow lines while traveling approximately 35 to 40 mph. Jason Slatcoff of the West Wyoming police department, the sole witness to testify Thursday, said that while he was on scene responding to the accident Feb. Slatcoff told the court that he walked up and down the stretch of West Eighth Street where the crash took place several times throughout the day, and although there were occasional wet spots, the road was mostly dry and treated with salt. Slatcoff testified that after receiving search warrants for both vehicles, Trooper Joseph Wasko of the Pennsylvania State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit collected data from the electronic control module of Ostrowski’s vehicle.
