Duryea man facing vehicular homicide charges - Wilkes Barre Times-Leader

WEST PITTSTON — A man from Duryea accused with a vehicular homicide death in West Wyoming two years ago will face similar charges in Luzerne County Court. West Wyoming police charged Jack Ostrowski, 42, with homicide by vehicle, speeding and crossing into on-coming lane of travel after investigating a fatal crash on West Eighth Street on Feb. Police allege Ostrowski, driving a 2009 Chevrolet cargo van owned by Keystone Automotive Distributors in Exeter, was traveling in excess of 70 mph when he collided head-on with a 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe, driven by Thomas J. Ohl Sr. , 61, of Dallas,... Police said an electronic control module from the cargo van allegedly recorded Ostrowski was driving 71 mph three seconds before the head-on crash. Speed limit on West Eighth Street is 40 mph, the complaint says. Ostrowski allegedly told police he was traveling at about 35 to 40 mph and slid on black ice when he struck Ohl’s vehicle. Police said there was no black ice in the area at the time of the crash. Ohl’s estate through the law firm of Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald, LLP, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Ostrowski, Keystone Automotive Operations, Inc. , in June 2013. An out-of-court settlement was reached in May 2014, for $2. 5 million, according to court records. Source: timesleader.com
