Beijing Benz drives production in China despite market slump - China Daily

Despite the market plunge, Sino-German joint venture Beijing Benz Automotive Co is still confident and planning to bring new locally made Mercedes models to Chinese consumers in the near future. "We are very confident about the future," said Peter Schabert, the new president and CEO of BBAC on Aug 24, when the company celebrated its 10th anniversary in Beijing. According to Schabert, the new locally produced GLC and C-Class SUV will hit the assembly line by the end of 2015. Apart from new models, the company plans to raise its annual output from 150,000 vehicles last year to 200,000 this year, an annual... A clear plan, a variety of products and high quality standard are the keys to higher growth rates than the average growth rate of the country's vehicle market, said Chen Hongliang, senior executive vice-president of BBAC. The company launched its long wheelbase C-Class last year and GLA-Class compact SUV in April. According to Chen, more than 50 percent of Mercedes-Benz models are made in China, and there will be more locally produced models in the future. Briefly: A new entry-level version of the seminal “four-door coupe”. Few events have had as profound an influence on modern automotive design as the debut of the CLS a decade ago. That car’s arched roofline launched a fleet of copycat four-door models, from German luxury competitors to South Korean strivers, all of which willingly sacrificed practicality on the altar of design. The CLS didn’t only make it permissible to market new models with compromised headroom in the rear seat, it also tweaked the lexicon. The “four-door coupe” became an accepted description of the genre, never mind the obvious contradiction. The CLS, based on the midrange E-Class sedans, got away with it in the same way a runway model gets away with, well, almost anything. By the specifications, the loss of headroom in the rear seat is just two inches (and one inch up front) compared with the conventional E-Class. On a recent 1,000-mile trip by myself, the CLS proved to be an ideal long-distance companion, even when construction slowed the Interstate to a crawl for long stretches. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Audi Malaysia today introduced its latest upgraded Audi A6 variants to battle in the highly contested premium mid-sized sedan segment now being held by the BMW and Mercedes-Benz brands. On a global basis, Audi’s year-to-date deliveries has grown more than 100 percent in the last ten years, from 422,000 units in 2005, growing steadily to 902,000 for YTD June 2015. Global YTD June sales numbers indicate that Audi is a second to BMW... Although Audi is not doing as well as the other two brands in Malaysia, Immo Buschmann, Managing Director of Audi Malaysia is looking forward to improve Audi’s share through various undisclosed plans which include infrastructure and network... When asked about local assembly, Buschmann stated that a CKD operation in Malaysia is not on Audi Malaysia’s radar at the moment. One of the more obvious actions taken by Audi Malaysia is the astute pricing strategy, which sees the new Audi A6 priced very competitively despite the variants being CBU (fully imported units.
