Ford to add 1,550 jobs to meet F-150 demand Ford Motor said it is adding 1,550 hourly workers this quarter to boost production of its aluminum-body F-150, which went on sale lat last year. ly/1CYQZuN Ford is adding 1,550 jobs at four plants to meet demand for the new 2015 F-150 pickup, and the influx of new entry-level workers will bump up the wages by about 50% for as many as 500 lower-paid employees already on Ford's payroll. The reason for the new jobs is that demand is high for the 2015 F-150, which is still ramping up to full production. Some customers are waiting months for their orders to be filled and Ford wants to move faster. "Ford needs to pull out all the stops. The reason for the pay raises if that each new hire boosts the number of employees who earn a lower wage. Under the Ford-UAW contract, Ford is limited to 20% of its workforce at the second-tier entry wage, with some exemptions, such as for in-sourced work or temporary workers. Ford exceeded the cap this week and 55 employees hired in 2011 will see their hourly rate increase from $19. 28 to $28. 50. With each new hire, a worker at the top of the lower-tier seniority list will bump up to the higher senior pay scale. In Thursday’s series opener with Wichita, it was Laredo that made the costly miscues — and it made them at a near-record pace. In a battle of the top two teams in the American Association’s South division, the Lemurs made six errors as the Wingnuts rolled to a 9-1 victory at Uni-Trade Stadium. All of Wichita’s first seven runs were unearned as Laredo was one error short of tying the all-time league record. Car Wars: Detroit 3 to hold steady, Honda to gain - USA TODAY

Nissan and the Korean automakers could slip and the rest, including the Detroit Three, should hold their own over the next four years, according to the influential Car Wars report released Wednesday. General Motors' product plans, including advancing the introduction of the next generation of full-size pickups by two years to the 2019 model year, are strong enough to maintain market share and pricing. Ford is well-positioned to sustain the strong prices it is getting for its new vehicles, including three new models for Lincoln, while leveraging its global platforms. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will be hard-pressed to meet the ambitious targets in its five-year plan but the main analyst behind the report thinks the automaker should retain current share with a new minivan on the horizon. A fresh showroom is key and drives market share shifts, said BofA Merrill Lynch Analyst John Murphy, leader on the report released Wednesday at an Automotive Press Association event in Detroit. He expects the industry to peak at 20 million vehicles in 2018 and then begin a down cycle that will hit a trough of 14 million to 15 million U. S. sales about 2025.
