2011 Ford F-250 King Ranch 4x4 - Automobile Magazine

I must have put 500 miles on this truck during my time behind the wheel and put it through all kinds of scenarios. One weekend I hauled my race car, trailer, and equipment to the track. the next weekend I crammed the cab full of people and the bed with their camping gear for a weekend trip to Michigan International Speedway for the NASCAR race. Both weekends the truck proved to be right in its element and received numerous compliments from other Ford truck owners, and a few snarls from Chevy and Dodge guys. One buddy who drives a Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins questioned the Ford's diesel powerplant when I pulled up to his house. But a diesel it is, and it towed my 4800-pound trailer and race car combo like nothing was there. I was not terribly impressed by the 6. 2-liter engine or the FX4's ride quality. Perhaps that's why I was so blown away by the 6. 7-liter's smoothness and the King Ranch's unladen ride. Yes, it's a big truck and it's going to ride rather rough until you load up the bed or hook up to a trailer, but it's livable for daily use. I'd probably give the nod to Dodge's 2500/Cummins combo for a daily driver that sees serious towing on weekends due to Dodge's incredible ability to make such a big truck behave so well when it's empty. Even with tougher emissions regulations in effect and the talk of rising fuel prices surrounding the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, there's never been a better time to buy a big diesel truck. 7-liter V-8 is the quietest diesel engine we've driven in a pickup, thanks to the engine's new piston design, fuel-injection strategy and special acoustic covers that sit over the injectors on each cylinder bank to quiet noises from the fuel... We've heard some say that you can stand next to the truck and not be able to tell it's idling, but we were still clearly able to hear its subdued clatter, which we consider to be a positive characteristic. However, if you're into getting the attention of other oil-burning HD truck owners in the Home Depot parking lot as you roll in, you're going to be disappointed. You've got to be within about 10 feet of an idling truck to know a diesel is in your proximity. There's extra baffling to reduce road and powertrain noise and the continued use of what Ford calls "quiet steel" in the dash panel, which uses a multilayer laminate to help reduce vehicle noise and vibration levels. The ceiling is covered with a new headliner material that feels a bit more solid to the touch than before and helps absorb noise in the cab. As Ford updated its heavy-duty pickup range for the 2014 model year, the latest Super Duty is hardly a complete re-invention, but it does incorporate a few key updates to help the 2015 F-250, 2015 F-350, and 2015 F-450 pickups fend off competitors... Although it's still nestled between the cylinder banks, thanks to an inverted manifold arrangement, the turbo itself is different than those used on the 6. 7-liter Power Stroke since 2011. While previous engines used a so-called single sequential... Other revisions applied to the latest 6. 7-liter Power Stroke are less visible. A new high-pressure fuel pump is fitted, while revised fuel injectors provide improved fuel atomization, allowing for a more controlled, efficient combustion cycle. Ford claims these revisions go a long way in improving the durability of the 6. 7-liter Power Stroke, but do they also make the turbo-diesel V-8 more powerful than before.
